While it was freezing this week (at least for a Darwin expat such as myself), it is nice to know that now the winter solstice (shortest day of the year for daylight hours) has come and gone, and we will slowly but surely, start to get a bit more daylight.
Monday 26 June is a rostered day off, so the majority of the crews will be back from the weekend on Tuesday. Here is a bit of an update on completed works and what is upcoming.
- Utility Works – Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent
Utility works in this area are set to really ramp up over the next few weeks. We are installing a watermain under St Kilda Road, close up against the footpath. There will be a few pedestrian diversions (similar to what has been seen around the Hallmark and Domain Hill) and access changes to buildings in this area. We will keep the information coming regarding this future changes.
- Albert Road Reserve Station entrance
This station entrance will look largely the same for the next little while. Waterproofing is complete. Formwork, steel fixing and concrete pours are ongoing. As works at the entrance progress (much like on the Shrine side), night works will take place in the station around the Albert entrance.
- Albert Road North construction
Works on the Kings Way end of Albert Road have been a focus for this area and will continue to be into next week. Breakout and demolition of the redundant roadway continue as well as the construction of the legacy linear park.
- St Kilda Road median works – South
We will start service proving on the city bound side of St Kilda Road from Tuesday. This will help inform our construction methodology before works on the drainage and installation of the separated bike lanes commence here on 5 July. Once these works commence, the permanent parking removal as highlighted in yellow on the map below will be in place.
- St Kilda Road median works – North
No new updates in this area, works continue to progress well and are on track to reopen mid-July.
- Station box construction
Testing, commissioning, installation all continues in the station box. Platform screen door testing, commissioning of the lifts, colour back glass installation, drum lights, back-of-house room fit-out, are ongoing.
- Shrine Entrance
Walls and column installation that divide the front and back of house in the entrance are underway as I mentioned last week. Installation of the new walkway and hoarding are ongoing, moving the hoarding will allow us to commence the next stage of works in this area. We will be connecting the water and power to mains this Sunday during the day.
- Park Street to Albert Road
We will be coming back to work on the recently opened new footpath this area on Tuesday to undergo some rectification works. The previous pedestrian arrangement that was implemented in May will be in effect. Pedestrians on the southern footpath of St Kilda Road will be diverted onto a temporary footpath on the roadway while the footpath works take place. As with last time, pedestrian access to Domain Hill and The Hallmark maintained at all times.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Thanks, Remy
