CYP – Nov 17

Good afternoon,

I am very pleased to say that Bowen Lane has reopened to vehicles and pedestrians this afternoon.

This week we also completed the resurfacing of Kings Way / Albert Road intersection and the section of St Kilda Road between Albert Road and Park Street. Fresh road and line marking on Albert Road pictured below.

You may have caught on the news that we hosted Premier Jacinta Allan at Anzac Station yesterday for a press conference about hiring workers for the new Metro Tunnel stations. She was accompanied by the new Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams and the Member for Albert Park, Nina Taylor.

It’s another big week coming up in Domain following, the RDO on Monday, with five weeks remaining until we finish for the year. Let’s take a look at what is happening.

Upcoming major works: Toorak Road Resurfacing 29 November to 1 December

We will be resurfacing the city bound lanes of the Toorak Road / Kings Way / St Kilda Road intersection from Sunday 26 November to 1 December. These works must take place overnight to minimise traffic disruption to this busy intersection. The works will take place from Arthur Street all the way to Bowen Crescent and involve removing the existing road surface, laying a new road surface and line marking – Think of the works that took place at Kings Way this week, and move it along to the next intersection. Keep an eye out for more information on these works, they will be hitting letterboxes soon.

Park Street to Albert Road

We have started the cladding through this section. Planting and irrigation install to take place next week. The east/west pedestrian crossing from Park Street to the gardens remains closed.

Albert Road legacy construction

On Wednesday, the westbound lane of Albert Road will be closed off peak for a few hours while we mulch the reserve.  Majority of the sheds are gone with the remaining to come out next week. Once all the sheds are moved, we will rejig the pedestrian movements around this area slightly, shifting the crossing by a 20m or so. Soft and hard landscaping continues in the linear park.

Albert Road Reserve forecourt and Station Entrance  (works until 1am)

Forming, tying reinforcement and concrete pours continue at the entrance until 1am with the final roof pour scheduled for Tuesday 21 November. Once cured, we will start to remove the form work.

The first section of the roof has now been waterproofed and backfilled. You’ll start to see roadworks through here as we construct the second lane of St Kilda Road, the underground services the bike lanes.

Station Fitout

Back and front of house service installation and commissioning continues within the station. We’re working on getting the oculus watertight so that tiling can commence in the main area (where the press conference was held in the image above).

Eastern site – Shrine Entrance and Domain Road (Overnight works)

Services continue to be installed in the shrine entrance along with works on the lift (structure pictured below). The steel for the canopy is nearing completion.

We have started to demolish parts of Domain Road in preparation for the road reinstatement and tram works next year.

Underground services install continue between Park Street and Melbourne Grammar School within the site. Telstra finished their scope today. We will start the drainage works next week.

St Kilda Road between Park Street and Bromby (Overnight works 21-23 Nov)

As mentioned in the November construction update, we need to install conduits under St Kilda Road. This will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night next week under a closure of St Kilda Road southbound (from Dorcas to Toorak). The work areas are located near the tram stop and across from Bowen Crescent and will involve saw cutting, non destructive digging and hand tools. We expect the first night to be the most disruptive when we cut though the road.

St Kilda Road – Bowen Crescent to Bowen Lane

Northbound side (Towards City)

As mentioned above, Bowen Lane has reopened. Thank you for your patience as we worked with the tangle of services through that area.

From Tuesday 21 to Saturday 25 November, Bowen Crescent will be closed at the intersection of St Kilda Road while we start the works to build a raised pedestrian crossing, new kerbs and install underground services. On Saturday, the exit from Bowen Crescent to St Kilda Road will reopen with the left turn in from St Kilda Road to stay closed until December.

Next week we will also be installing a LV conduit down Bowen Crescent, which requires a day time closure of local driveways.

St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Southbound side (Away from City)

Unfortunately the laneway closure has been extended until 1pm tomorrow after an underground asset was hit on Monday, delaying works until the all clear was given by WorkSafe. We are still confident that the remaining drainage and bike lane installation are on track to be completed by the end of this month. Next week we will continue to install the remaining drainage in a tight and tricky section with multiple existing underground services keeping the crew on their toes.

Have a great weekend,

Rob and Rem

Now it is the top car park

BOWEN CRESCENT DRIVEWAY – DAYTIME CLOSURE

Please be advised that each day from Tuesday 21 November to Friday 24 November 2023 there will be no vehicle egress or ingress to the Botanica upper-level carpark between 8.00am and 4.00pm each day.

Works to install utilities under the road will prevent access to and from Bowen Crescent into the upper-level carpark. These works involve saw cutting the road where the driveway and Bowen Crescent meet, digging a trench, installing conduit and reinstating the road. The driveway will be reinstated each day by 4pm.

Bicycles and motorcycles will be able to enter and exit the upper-level carpark and be walked along the footpath to the road. Pedestrian access to the upper-level carpark will be maintained.

Cross Yarra Partnership can arrange alternative parking at 1 Queens Road. If you would like a parking pass, please respond to this email or let us know if you would like to discuss alternative options.

Please make contact if you have any questions or concerns regarding this temporary access change by emailing cyp@metrotunnelcyp-dc.com.au or by calling the Project Information Line on 1800 105 105.

Kind regards,

Remy

CYP Update – v 10

Good evening all,

Apologies for the later than usual update.

After the long weekend, the team are well rested and ready for a massive week in the Domain Precinct. We will be going big across multiple work areas, more information below.

Kings Way / Albert Road resurfacing works (Night works)

This week’s main event is the overnight works to resurface and line mark the Kings Way and Albert Road intersection (click here for notice). This will take place each night from 6pm Sunday 12 November to 6am Friday 17 November. The eastbound lane of Albert Road from Kings Way to 50 Albert Road will be closed from Sunday until Thursday with all traffic to enter Albert Road via St Kilda Road. Local access will be maintained to driveways and businesses with some delays while crews clear a path. One lane of Kings Way will remain open overnight while we work in the area.

The second stage of this overnight work is to lay asphalt and line mark along St Kilda Road citybound between Albert Road and Park Street. These works will only take place if works progress well at Kings Way, as that intersection is the priority. If needed, this works between Albert and Park will be rescheduled to a later date. The St Kilda Road asphalting will require and citybound closure between Toorak Road and Park Street Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Local access will be maintained and only one end of Albert Road will be closed at a time. Traffic controllers will be in place to assist.

St Kilda Road second stage:

Red – works area

Orange – detour

Park Street to Albert Road

We are aiming to commence planting in the garden beds in front of the Domain Hill as well as in front of the Hallmark next week. The cladding along the retaining walls will also start to be installed next week. The east/west pedestrian crossing from Park Street to the gardens closed this week and will remain closed next week while we connect the stormwater drainage.

Albert Road legacy construction

News that some will be happy to hear is that the site sheds on Albert Road will be removed next week. The week following, we will move the parking near the Ramsay Clinic to reserve side as we continue to work on the legacy footpath through that area. Towards Kings Way, the hard and soft landscaping continues. Some of the parking on the northern side of Albert Road will be occupied while we undertake the intersection works mentioned above.

Albert Road Reserve Station Entrance (works until 1am)

It’s been a while since we’ve had hydro demo on site, it’s a sound you certainly can’t miss. The team have had to cut back some of concrete around the Albert Entrance. This is mostly complete with some minor sections left to demon tomorrow.

Forming, tying reinforcement and concrete pours continue at the entrance until 1am.

Station Fitout

Services continue to installed and connected underground.

Shrine Entrance (Works until 1am)

You may have noticed something green in the sky while parts of the canopy structure were lifted into place today by a crane. It is really starting to take shape, that shape may be one of a praying mantis, but a shape none the less. Canopy work will continue next week.

St Kilda Road  Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent

Northbound side (Towards City)

Bowen Lane is getting closer and closer to reopening. The majority of the underground work is done, with just the roadworks to take place next week.

From Monday 13 November to Wednesday 15 November, the driveway of the Botanica building will be closed to allow us to rebuild the driveway. As the driveway works go all the way to the property boundary, during this time pedestrian access will be as the pink marks below.

St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Southbound side (Away from City)

Draining works are going well between Bromby Street and Toorak Road. Next week there will be a ‘Blitz’ of sorts where we will have additional crew on to get an extremely complex section of this drainage run complete. This will involve closing the laneway.

As you can see, it is a huge week coming up for us. If you have any questions about the works above, please feel free to reach out.

Remy

Full driveway closure

FULL 60 HOUR CLOSURE – ST KILDA ROAD DRIVEWAY

Please be advised that from 7am Monday 13 November to 7pm Wednesday 15 November there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access from St Kilda Road to the lower level car park.

Works to build the new driveway require a full closure for 60 hours. This will allow us to construct the reinforcement of the driveway, pour the concrete and allow enough time for the concrete to set and harden.

Pedestrian, bicycle and motorcycle access will not be possible during this time as the new driveway is built to the property boundary.

We have arranged alternative parking at 1 Queens Road from Sunday 12 November. If you would like to take up this offer, please reply to this email or call 1800 105 105 with your name and the number of vehicles.

Following difficulties experienced by users during the last closure, we have come to an arrangement with the parking garage for this to be pass free. Exit will be granted via the call function on the boom gate. More instructions will be provided if you choose to take up the option. Please register by Thursday 9 November 2023.

If this option doesn’t work for you, please call us on 1800 105 105 to discuss alternatives.

Please note that while the driveway is closed for 60 hours, construction work will only take place during standard construction hours, except for the concrete pour which must be continuous and may run pass time.

Please make contact if you have any questions or concerns regarding this closure by emailing  cyp@metrotunnelcyp-dc.com.au or by calling the Project Information Line on 1800 105 105.

Kind regards,

Remy Fowler

CYP Update – Nov 3

Good afternoon,

Ready for an update on works straight from the horse’s mouth? I’m sorry, that was awful, I’ll rein in the Melbourne Cup references for the rest of the update.

This will be a shorter update than usual as the site is shut down for the weekend from this afternoon, with works returning on Thursday 9 November.

  1. Albert Road legacy construction

It’s slow going with the site shed removal, but they are on their way out. The linear park is starting to really come together with the hard and soft landscaping continuing.  As I mention last week, the team are busily preparing for the Albert Road / Kings Way intersection works which will involve six nights of works including profiling, asphalting and line marking. Kings Way will be reduced to one lane away from the city. There will be no exit or entrance onto Albert Road at times with all access via St Kilda Road. Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times.

  1. Albert Road Reserve Station Entrance (works until 1am)

Today we poured a few internal walls around the lift. We will strip of the internal wall form work next week and then get back to steel tying the roof slab. The team at the Albert entrance are getting ready for the delivery of the escalator and the concrete elements later this month. Works will continue until 1am.

  1. Station Fitout

A lot of work has been done in the front of house rooms as late, including installing the glass for the customer service desk and the retail spaces.

  1. Shrine Entrance (Works until 1am)

The last of the architectural concrete panels went in this week at the Shrine stairs. Next week you’ll see more of the structural steel for the mini canopy arrive to site. We will continue to commission and glaze the lift over there as well. As always, works continue to 1am.

Telstra will really kick off in installing their assets next week adjacent to St Kilda Road.

  1. St Kilda Road – Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent

We have all our paperwork back from South East Water, on Thursday we will have plumbers and a non destructive digging truck in Bowen Lane to finalise everything. Following that, we will get into the final road works to reinstate Bowen Lane ahead of reopening in mid November.  Bowen Crescent looks a bit like Hosier Lane, spray painted after the services scanning earlier in the week. Next week we will start to NDD and trench the LV conduit on the corner of St Kilda Road and Bowen Crescent now that the island is gone, and the barriers are adjusted.

  1. St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Southbound side (Away from City)

Today the southern pedestrian crossing reopened at the Toorak Road tram stop. This pedestrian crossing will only close again for brief amount of time when lay the final road surface overnight.

We have completed approximately a third of the drainage through this area. The remaining drainage will take another two to three weeks. This is the most complicated section of storm water. The crew need to demolish around live water valves in order to install the storm water between the two valves as well as the potential to need to de-water if there are any leaks.

Enjoy the weekend and a bit of quiet around the area until we are back on Thursday,

Rob and Remy

How will the trees and stuff on nature strip grow?

A number of people have expressed concern about planting in the nature strip after 7 years of heavy compacting the soil. They have always said …Don’t worry we will install ‘strata vaults’

These are ‘strata vaults’ being installed near the Domain

Massive and obviously will mean the soil won’t be super compacted. I think we will end up with tree and natives grassy stuff, A bit like this.

Driveway access

CYP got everything opened as promised but I thought that it looked a bit tight…so I deiced to give it a try. And the ‘perfect’ case, someone was coming out. I had to back into St Kilda Rd. Too tight and CYP have said they’ll try to fix it tomorrow.

and yes my dashcam needs the clock changed for daylight saving

…and I only downloaded the low resolution version.
