FULL 60 HOUR CLOSURE – ST KILDA ROAD DRIVEWAY
Please be advised that from 7am Monday 13 November to 7pm Wednesday 15 November there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access from St Kilda Road to the lower level car park.
Works to build the new driveway require a full closure for 60 hours. This will allow us to construct the reinforcement of the driveway, pour the concrete and allow enough time for the concrete to set and harden.
Pedestrian, bicycle and motorcycle access will not be possible during this time as the new driveway is built to the property boundary.
We have arranged alternative parking at 1 Queens Road from Sunday 12 November. If you would like to take up this offer, please reply to this email or call 1800 105 105 with your name and the number of vehicles.
Following difficulties experienced by users during the last closure, we have come to an arrangement with the parking garage for this to be pass free. Exit will be granted via the call function on the boom gate. More instructions will be provided if you choose to take up the option. Please register by Thursday 9 November 2023.
If this option doesn’t work for you, please call us on 1800 105 105 to discuss alternatives.
Please note that while the driveway is closed for 60 hours, construction work will only take place during standard construction hours, except for the concrete pour which must be continuous and may run pass time.
Please make contact if you have any questions or concerns regarding this closure by emailing cyp@metrotunnelcyp-dc.com.au or by calling the Project Information Line on 1800 105 105.
Kind regards,
Remy Fowler
Good afternoon,
Ready for an update on works straight from the horse’s mouth? I’m sorry, that was awful, I’ll rein in the Melbourne Cup references for the rest of the update.
This will be a shorter update than usual as the site is shut down for the weekend from this afternoon, with works returning on Thursday 9 November.
It’s slow going with the site shed removal, but they are on their way out. The linear park is starting to really come together with the hard and soft landscaping continuing. As I mention last week, the team are busily preparing for the Albert Road / Kings Way intersection works which will involve six nights of works including profiling, asphalting and line marking. Kings Way will be reduced to one lane away from the city. There will be no exit or entrance onto Albert Road at times with all access via St Kilda Road. Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained at all times.
Today we poured a few internal walls around the lift. We will strip of the internal wall form work next week and then get back to steel tying the roof slab. The team at the Albert entrance are getting ready for the delivery of the escalator and the concrete elements later this month. Works will continue until 1am.
A lot of work has been done in the front of house rooms as late, including installing the glass for the customer service desk and the retail spaces.
The last of the architectural concrete panels went in this week at the Shrine stairs. Next week you’ll see more of the structural steel for the mini canopy arrive to site. We will continue to commission and glaze the lift over there as well. As always, works continue to 1am.
Telstra will really kick off in installing their assets next week adjacent to St Kilda Road.
We have all our paperwork back from South East Water, on Thursday we will have plumbers and a non destructive digging truck in Bowen Lane to finalise everything. Following that, we will get into the final road works to reinstate Bowen Lane ahead of reopening in mid November. Bowen Crescent looks a bit like Hosier Lane, spray painted after the services scanning earlier in the week. Next week we will start to NDD and trench the LV conduit on the corner of St Kilda Road and Bowen Crescent now that the island is gone, and the barriers are adjusted.
Southbound side (Away from City)
Today the southern pedestrian crossing reopened at the Toorak Road tram stop. This pedestrian crossing will only close again for brief amount of time when lay the final road surface overnight.
We have completed approximately a third of the drainage through this area. The remaining drainage will take another two to three weeks. This is the most complicated section of storm water. The crew need to demolish around live water valves in order to install the storm water between the two valves as well as the potential to need to de-water if there are any leaks.
Enjoy the weekend and a bit of quiet around the area until we are back on Thursday,
Rob and Remy
A number of people have expressed concern about planting in the nature strip after 7 years of heavy compacting the soil. They have always said …Don’t worry we will install ‘strata vaults’
These are ‘strata vaults’ being installed near the Domain

Massive and obviously will mean the soil won’t be super compacted. I think we will end up with tree and natives grassy stuff, A bit like this.

More reading is here https://citygreen.com/category/products/stratavault/
You can see it all in 3 minutes
CYP got everything opened as promised but I thought that it looked a bit tight…so I deiced to give it a try. And the ‘perfect’ case, someone was coming out. I had to back into St Kilda Rd. Too tight and CYP have said they’ll try to fix it tomorrow.
and yes my dashcam needs the clock changed for daylight saving
…and I only downloaded the low resolution version.

Good afternoon,
Can you believe this lookahead includes the start of November! Ten months down and two to go for 2023.
There will be no RDO on Monday so expect people on site. It will, however, be a shorter week as the site is shutting down for the weekend for the Melbourne Cup public holiday. Works will stop from Friday afternoon, 3 November and recommence in the morning of Thursday 9 November. We will be working away next week, trying to get as much done before the break.
We don’t have a section for Park Street anymore since works largely wrapped up there. The east/ west pedestrian crossing from Park Street to the gardens will be closed for a few days next week while we connect the watermain. On Thursday 2 November, the left turn from St Kilda Road to Park Street will be closed while we remove a redundant pole and deliver the cladding for the garden beds. Hallmark residents will be able to access their driveway from Park Street during this time.
Decommissioning of the site sheds will continue in the lead up to the shut down weekend. On Thursday 2 November there will be a westbound closure of Albert Road while we install the new light poles in the reserve. This should only take a few hours in the middle of the day. Further towards Kings Way, the WUSD garden works will continue with the pouring of more retaining walls, installation of stones and pavements. The team are busily planning for the Kings Way / Albert Road intersection works that will commence on 12 November. Keep an eye out for information on that as we get closer to the date.
351 m3 of concrete was poured last Friday. Waterproofing soon followed, that should be wrapped next week and you’ll start to see the backfilling.
Steel tying will continue in the station entrance until 1am. We’re expecting the second pour for the roof (which is about half the size of the first) to be poured in mid-November.
Here is an underside view of the scaffolding for the roof.

In the station, along with plastering and furniture, service installation continues to test and commissions different sections.
On top of the station where the old logistics void was, the watermain is nearly complete with just the final connection to go (hence the pedestrian closure at Park). Telstra has started out on site today with installation of their assets to kick off after the shut down weekend.
This week, the first of the structural steel pieces (in a very familiar shade of green) for the smaller canopy for the Shrine entrance was installed. Inside the entrance, the crew have been installing precast concrete architectural elements. We are still working until 1am on this side of the road.

In Bowen Lane we have started to dig out the strata vault and are about halfway through the new sewer connection, we are just waiting for some paperwork from South East Water. You may have noticed the kerbs have started to go in at Bowen Lane as well.
We have also started working on the new footpath out the front of 390 St Kilda Road. This pedestrian arrangement will be in place until mid-November.
We will be installing the LV conduit directly under the Botanica’s driveway on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, this will see a closure from 8am to 4pm both days.
There will be quite a bit of activity in Bowen Crescent next week. We will adjust some of our barriers here to give us some space to service prove, using non-destructive digging trucks. We will also demolish the temporary traffic island in the Bowen Cres / St Kilda Road intersection. By removing this island, we will be able to keep Bowen Crescent open for longer while we build the new kerbs and pedestrian crossing here. There will be a stop / start traffic controller on Bowen Crescent while we do these works and some minor delays.
Northbound Side (Towards City)
We know it’s been a bit tricky to navigate the new line marking, our traffic team is reviewing what can be done through this section ahead of the final legacy roadway and line marking works in late November.
Southbound side (Away from City)
Works in the section between Bromby and Toorak road will continue until the end of November. We’ve encountered significant delays here, much like at Bowen Lane. Once you open St Kilda Road, no matter how much planning, you never really know what you’re going to find. Works remaining include the stormwater installation, backfilling, separated bike lane install and temporary road works (final wearing course will be sometime in December). We will open the pedestrian crossing at the southern end of the Toorak Road Tram stop next week.
Enjoy the weekend,
Rob and Remy
ST KILDA ROAD DRIVEWAY – DAYTIME CLOSURE
Please be advised that on Tuesday 31 October and Wednesday 1 November 2023 there will be no vehicle egress or ingress to the Botanica lower-level carpark between 8.00am and 4.00pm each day.
Works to install the final utilities and new kerbs will prevent access to and from St Kilda Road into the lower-level carpark. This will be the second last time the driveway needs to close for Metro Tunnel works.
Bicycles and motorcycles will be able to enter and exit the lower-level carpark and be walked along the footpath to the road. Pedestrian access to the lower-level carpark will be maintained.
Please make contact if you have any questions or concerns regarding this temporary access change by emailing cyp@metrotunnelcyp-dc.com.au or by calling the Project Information Line on 1800 105 105.
We will need to close the driveway for the final time from 7am Monday 13 November to 7pm Wednesday 15 November. This closure will be 24 hours a day. This is because the driveway is made of concrete and needs to be poured and then cured with no disturbance. More information on this closure will be provided closer to the date.
Kind regards,
Remy Fowler
