CYP week ahead

Good afternoon everyone,

For the Collingwood Magpies, Brisbane Lions, Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos fans reading this, best of luck to you over the weekend!

While it’s a big weekend for sport, it will be quiet on site with works not returning until Tuesday 3 October.

  1. Albert Road legacy construction

Next week works on the Albert Reserve Forecourt will begin. This is the area between the current entrance construction and the Albert Road / St Kilda Road intersection. On Wednesday night (4/10) we will have a crane working for an hour of so on St Kilda Road to move some of the barriers to implement a new construction access gate. Soft and hard landscaping will continue closer to Kings Way.

  1. Albert Road Reserve Station Entrance

This week, crews have been working up to 1am in the Albert Road entrance. After 10pm, works are significantly reduced to below road level with hand tools only. These 1am finishes will continue into next week and until the roof slab in poured later next month.

  1. Station Fitout

I hope you enjoyed the photos from last week, not much further to update here.

  1. Shrine Entrance

The backfilling and breakout of the logistic void is now complete. The drainage and services crews will mobilise starting next week. Steel fixing and pours continue within the station entrance.

  1. St Kilda Road – Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent

Still no update on the reopening of Bowen Lane.  Remaining works include the installation of the strata vault, kerbs, footpath and road ways.  Next week City of Melbourne will be in to plant the next batch of trees in the median across from Melbourne Grammar School. Once this section is planted and landscaped we should be able to remove the barriers through this section and we’re also looking to open the legacy parking that will be in place in front of Melbourne Grammar. We’ll confirm once we have a date for this barrier removal and line marking.

  1. St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Northbound Side (Towards City)

This section is very near to completion with just the final touches remaining on the installation of the separated bike lanes. The smaller site south of Kings Way/ Toorak Road is on track to reopen in Mid-October.

Southbound side (Away from City)

The pedestrian crossing near the Royce to the tram stop has now reopened and today the crews were in place doing the last of the works on the pesky gas line that was at the wrong height.  As mentioned previously, this will enable the crews to head to the southern end of this section at Toorak Road and begin the installation of the drainage working their way back towards the city. The pedestrian crossing at from Subway to the tram stop will close for about a week to let these works safely take place as we install the new drainage across the ped crossing. We are working away to be out of this area by the end of October.

Enjoy the long weekend,

Thanks, Rob and Remy

CYP – week ahead

Good afternoon everyone,

I am sure that the cheers from the CYP office could be heard down St Kilda Road yesterday with the opening of the right turn from Park Street onto St Kilda Road. One little data card arrived, a team of sparkies and now movements around the area have become a little bit easier.

Next week will be a short due to the AFL grand final long weekend, with crews finishing up on Thursday and recommencing Tuesday 3 October.

  1. Albert Road legacy construction

The works out the front of Kettle Black were completed earlier in the week and the new bike loops are in. A few more bits and pieces are to take place here before the temporary fencing is removed. Next week we will continue to work on the linear park. We will be excavating the strata vaults which will allow us to plant trees in the park next year. You’ll also see the team continuing with the laying of bluestone in the area. CitiPower will be working on the northern footpath of Albert Road next week as well which may detour foot traffic.

  1. Albert Road Reserve Station Entrance

For those who can see down into the Albert Station entrance it has largely looked the same until Wednesday when the precast wall elements began to be installed. All of the walls around the perimeter have now been poured, with a few pours remaining for the internal walls. Soon, you’ll start to see the form work for the roof slab come together. The roof pours will take place in October.

  1. Station Fitout

No update as yet on the planting at the tram stop. Fit out continues, I have included some images from below ground. You know what they say about pictures and how many words they tell.

  1. Shrine Entrance

The logistics void was closed early in the week and backfilling commenced today. Next week we will kick off with the installing the temporarily relocated services into their final resting place.

Steel fixing and pours continue within the station entrance.

  1. St Kilda Road – Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent

Unfortunately there is still no update on the reopening of Bowen Lane.

  1. St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Northbound Side (Towards City)

This section is very near to completion with just the final touches remaining. The smaller site south of Kings Way/ Toorak Road is on track to reopen in Mid-October.

Southbound side (Away from City)

The gas company has been working away in this section as mentioned last week. Next week we will be focusing on the kerbs in front of the Royce and aiming to reopen the pedestrian crossing to the tram stop ahead of the long weekend. Following the long weekend, things will pick up towards the Subway end of this stretch.

You may have also noticed that we have switched traffic to the MGS side between the new tram stop and Bromby, moving cyclists in the new separated bike lanes. This will let us get into the median and continue work there.

Have a great weekend,

Thanks, Rob and Remy

Building management

Just a brief message to let you know that we have finalised an agreement with a new Building Management company.

It means the end of a long-term relationship between The Botanica and Paul /Genesis. I’d like to personally thank Paul, Maggie, Arthur and Mick for their service over many years and wish them well in the future.

Paul’s final day will be Thursday September 28.

More details of the new Building Manager to come later.

Plumbing inspection – follow-up

Just in case you are wondering, we have not forgotten about this.

We received the report from Webb plumbing and did the obvious, checked a couple of apartments that we were familiar with. Hmm, both seemed wrong, they didn’t match with what we knew the plumber had said.

We followed up with Paul Webb and received this reply…

I chased them again yesterday..

CYP week ahead

Contains an error…I think, see if you can spot it. It’s close to the start

Good afternoon everyone,

That was a much more pleasant week of weather – and a productive one for Anzac Station. We’ve opened the right turn from St Kilda Road into Albert Road, along with the parking spaces along the park side.

Next week we’ll reopen the Park Street right turn onto St Kilda Road – the asphalting of the intersection was done last night, now just waiting on confirmation about when the data card for the light sequence arrives and can get plugged into the system at the intersection.
Just a reminder that next Monday is an RDO – So no work on site on Monday.

  1. Albert Road legacy construction

As I mentioned in the opener, the Albert Road is now open in both directions and the parking is in place. There is nothing better than freshly laid asphalt.

One last little bit of scope we have to complete is the re-asphalting of the footpath in front of Kettle Black. Next week we’ll see a few pedestrian detours later in the afternoon as we fence across the café, break out the existing asphalt and then roll immediately into the laying the lovely fresh asphalt. It’s not a big surface area, so the asphalting won’t extend overnight – and the loud breaking out of the asphalt should be done in an hour.

While this is happening we’ll put a pedestrian detour in place on the roadway around the footpath.

A quick update on the trees in front of the Hallmark Building – this area is prepped and ready for trees. I’m told that City of Port Phillip has the trees in their possession now – and will be planting them this month before the end of the planting season.

  1. Albert Road Reserve Station Entrance

The station walls are progressing well and next week will see more of the precast elements being lowered into the box as well as another wall pour on the southern side.

  1. Station Fitout

We’re about 70% done on the installation of the pavers on the station platform and here is also work going on to complete the detailing on the ceiling at the concourse level. We’ve also recently done a lot of work to commission the lifts that will take passengers from the tram stop down the concourse level. Speaking of the tram stop, anyone who hopped on a tram recently will have noticed a bit more real estate on the platform itself, along with the new vinyl showing the artists impression of the future station. We’ll also soon have trees on the tram platform  – It was scheduled in for last night, but Yarra Trams raised some last minute concerns so it had to be delayed. They were also schedule in to plant some trees adjacent to the northern ventilation shafts on St Kilda Road that has to be done at night when trams aren’t running.
Will advise when they pick a new date for tree planting.

  1. Shrine Entrance

Nothing too exciting to report from the Shrine entrance since the arrival of the freshly poured staircase. One thing worth noting is that this week we will be closing up the final logistics void in the station roof that we previously used to lower material down. This will kick off the works to relocate a range of services that were temporarily relocated back in 2017, these will be put back onto the station box in their final alignment. The shipping containers adjacent to the Melbourne Grammar school will also start to be removed next week – they have acted as our covered walkways taking the work force back and forward from underground to the site sheds that are located on Domain Road. Similarly, the site sheds will soon be removed from Domain Road in the coming weeks.

  1. St Kilda Road – Bowen Lane to Bowen Crescent

Once again, we’ve run into a series of issues in our quest to relocate services in Bowen Lane. Unfortunately this will yet again push back the reopening of Bowen Lane connection to St Kilda Road. I wont offer up a forecast of when it will open until we know a bit more about what is happening with the latest issue-  but we are working hard to get all these services into the ground and the lane reopen.

  1. St Kilda Road Bowen Crescent to Toorak Road

Northbound Side (Towards City)

The drainage run is now complete and the team next week will be building the separated bike lanes through this section of the job.

Southbound side (Away from City)

We’ve finally commenced the drainage run along this section of the roadway as we’ve resolved an issue that we mentioned a few weeks back about a gas main being at a higher point than it should be. We’ve got the gas company coming next week to adjust the height, which will give us the opportunity to start get our drainage connection in. We will work from the Royce Hotel back towards St Kilda Road.

Possible Extended Works

We have asphalters booked in this afternoon to complete the asphalting behind the barriers in front of Melbourne Grammar School – I’m told there is an issue with asphalt supply – and as a result this may run a bit later than we would have liked. The good news is that the run is fairly narrow – and inside our site. The extra good news is that once the asphalting through here is complete, we’ll then be able to open the bike lane in this section of road and shift cars into the new asphalted lane. This shift will allow tree planting and turf installation to occur on the inner median in front of the school. It also means the traffic barriers and temporary fencing along the footpath in front of Melbourne Grammar can be removed. Just another welcome example of site fencing disappearing from the area.

Have a great weekend

Thanks, Rob and Remy
