More later but a couple of quick videos….sad but necessary

Quick trim today – tomorrow it’s goodbye

The trees opposite The Botanica were trimmed today to make tomorrow’s removal a little safer. Here’s a short video
Tree update

I have previously told you that our trees would likely go today – we have a very short reprieve. The current plan is to only remove some trees from the Albert Rd Reserve today.
Tomorrow they are likely to divert cars opposite us heading out of town into the service lane. They can then trim the ones behind the concrete barrier – trimming the side near the tram tracks.
Then on Friday they will move cars back into the centre section and remove our trees – the 3 behind the concrete barrier
Well that’s what I think will happen and is weather/wind dependent
Getting a tram to/from The Botanica

As you all must know by now, we no longer have a tram stop on our doorstep. We are fairly evenly between the Domain tramstop and Toorak Rd one.
It is about to get MUCH harder to get to the Domain tram stop. The footpath next to the park will be closed today or tomorrow and you’ll be routed through the park
Use the Toorak Rd tram stop (called Stop 22) for travel in either direction
Did you hear the noise last night!!

As notified by Metro Tunnel / CYP, there was some unavoidable nightworks last night, and will continue all week. It involved connecting overhead wires as pre-work for moving the tram tracks.
The fabulous news is that they were VERY quiet – in fact I was sceptical that anything had been done…but it was. It was mostly near the Domain Rd end of the St Kilda Rd service lane. They will move along towards Toorak Rd each night.
You may have also noticed that the lighting they used were much more directional than those previously used. This is to reduce the light encroachment impact on residents.
Thanks all.
Farewell old friends – update
It now seems we will lose the first of our trees as early as Wednesday February 14. I believe that the first ones to go will be the plane trees on the far nature strip in front of Botanica. There will also be some removed at about the same time in Albert Road reserve.
I am comfortable that as much as possible has been done to reduce the loss of trees and these trees do need to be removed.
This does not reduce the sadness of a loss of our ‘friends’ and I wondered if anyone would like to join me for a farewell drink under the trees next Sunday.
This is NOT a protest and it is NOT designed to ‘send a message’ to anyone. It is simply a farewell to our old friends.
Sunday February 11th at 5pm, see you there out the front. BYO everything
Noisy trucks
If you were disturbed by noisy trucks idling outside our building this morning, then you should report it. I did not hear them but understand that a number of sleepers were disturbed around 6am
Call MMRA on 1800 551 927 and explain that you understand it is a breach of the EPA regulations NV 1254. You can read the document here
If you have an issue with Metro Tunnel…
Thanks to the many people who have completed The Botanica survey on Metro Tunnel.
I was surprised to see that around 50% of people are not aware of the 7*24 hour contact number for Metro Tunnel. You can call 1800 551 927 ANYTIME and ask them about issues that cause you concern.
The call centre people can answer questions on noise, dust – whatever. There are more details here

If you have not yet done the survey, the link is here
Remember we are happy for more than one person in an apartment to complete the survey separately.
Farewell to old friends..correction
Oops – it is a very late brunch at 5pm. Meet out the front and it is BYO everything
