A few weeks back I decided to create a simple visual history of the Metro Rail work to create the new Domain Station in St Kilda Rd.
You can see it here.

There has been a lot of information and misinformation on the National Trust position on the Metro Rail work – especially around the Domain precinct.
They have now issued this position paper
Well worth reading
The MMRA website was indicating that we may have issues during the July 1-11 period. It has been clarified and website updated
1 July – 11 July

The map issued last week said that the Gas work will be outside 420 St Kilda rd but had it marked as outside 400 St Kilda Rd (our building).
I have just had confirmation that the work will be outside 420 St Kilda Rd and the above, updated map is being issued.
I have had discussions with Metro Rail about their method of sending LOTS of flyers but not providing much clarity. The flyers have been very ‘project focused’ and not ‘customer focused’. I don’t really care if the lane closures are for gas work, sewer work or tram work – I want to know what is closed and when.
They have now done this summary
It is MUCH better and gives a summary by each road area. A few things to note:
On another matter, I know that Botanica residents had a letterbox drop late last week about night works on June 14 and 15. It had an error, it shows the work immediately outside Botanica but calls it 420 St Kilda Rd. I have notified Metro Rail but assume the work is going to occur outside Botanica.
Don’t forget that there is a ‘drop in’ session tonight at 6:30pm at the Royce
Details here
As part of the works associated with the new Metro Rail tunnel project, you should be aware that some tram changes are coming soon. This will see the #58 Tram diverted from Domain Road to Toorak Rd West.
This requires a new Tram Super Stop to be constructed on the city side of the Toorak Rd / St Kilda Rd intersection (plus another one near Millswyn St in Toorak Rd W). It is a legislative requirement that all new tram stops are super stops.
This work will be HIGH IMPACT.
New tram route commences on July 12
Yarra Trams are responsible for the management of the work and associated noise mitigation. I expect we will hear more from them soon but if you’re getting sick of the Melbourne winter already and thinking of going away for the school holidays….it sounds like a great idea!!
Metro Rail have finally released this document. My interpretation of this document is that it forms the basis of the terms in the contract with the winning bidder. In that regard it is the minimum requirement, covering acceptable noise and vibration levels, relocations and the like.
I feel it is better than the previous versions that were tabled at the EES and more in line with best practice – London’s Crossrail project.

Apologies for the multiple emails updates, I’ve been away and just catching up myself.
As you should all know, the Number 8 tram is going to be re-routed from Domain Rd to Toorak Rd West. This web site has LOTS of details. My understanding is that the change will happen during the July school holidays.
