Crane in Bowen Cres yesterday

After talking to City of PP and the Site Manager about yesterday’s debacle, my best summary is

  • City of PP told them that they had to notify everyone in 402 St Kilda Rd about the crane. Hmm – not really sure even that happened
  • They have no idea of the oil splatter but will try and clean off our fence
  • Previous traffic management company was sacked. These guys were supposed to be much better.
  • Crazy traffic management plan where I had to ‘park’ in the St Kilda Rd line of traffic while waiting for someone to move a barrier – was approved by VicRoads. City of PP and Site guy can’t fix that!!
  • They agree that MacRob girls are at risk by walking on road. They have visited the school twice and asked for co-operation – no improvement
  • They agreed that the orange barriers do creep out but they then move them back when asked

Good news is

  • They have agreed to let Paul know of all cranes and the like going forward
  • They should be done by late November.

Bad news – they will be closing the street 6 more times before the project ends

CYP weekly udate

Good evening everyone,

Happy Friday to you all. We hope that you have a had a great week.

Below is a summary of construction activities coming up in the week to come.

Surface Works

You may have noticed at the northern end of site, where our site sheds were recently removed, drainage and roadworks are underway.

As we mentioned last week, this will prepare the southbound lane of St Kilda Road between Dorcas and Bromby streets towards recommissioning and will form the next stage of the southbound lane realignment.

With last week’s smooth switch of the southbound lane on St Kilda Road, work has now commenced for teams to access and complete the next section of D-wall removal in the south.

Over the coming week this will include removing the asphalt, excavating the top surface layers back to the roof slab, exposing the delayed pour strips, followed by the installation of steel reinforcements.

Just to the north, work is continuing waterproofing completed segments of completed D-wall.

This Monday 8 August is an RDO with most of the site being inactive however a small team will be undertaking waterproofing in this zone.

Station box construction

Underneath the surface on the train station platform level, concrete pours continue next week, progressively moving from north to south.

The emergency egress fire escape stairs in the south are now complete, ventilation fans have been installed and acoustic panelling in the service rooms are steadily reaching towards completion.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

On the roof of the tram interchange platform, roof cladding, canopy guttering and skylight installations will continue next week.

Underneath the canopy and along the eastern side of the platform, you will see in the attached image where the team have been trenching, waterproofing and installing conduits, that will house communication lines for future audio bollards, Myki machines and tram platform communications. Installation of this communication services infrastructure will continue over the next week.

Citipower’s HV works will also continue next week on Park St and at the entrance to the Shrine of Remembrance with the current pedestrian and road changes in place over the past few days continuing next week as shown in the attached map. A reminder that CitiPower operate under a separate permit to the Metro Tunnel works and as a result are subject to different standard working hours which may include some weekend or out of hour works. Citipower will provide separate notification of their works occurring over the next month. We will continue to keep you informed as we are made aware of their works.

Have a great weekend ahead.

Best regards, Rob and Christian

CYP weekly update

This came through yesterday – a noisy week ahead

Good morning everyone,

Apologies for the late weekly look ahead

We hope everyone has had a great week and you had a chance to enjoy some of the sunshine today.

Below is a wrap-up of construction activities happening on-site next week.

Surface Works

The big change out on site is the newly minted section of road across the site at the southern end. We’ve included a photo of the new road in action. After a false start on Tuesday, we managed to get the works complete on Wednesday and Thursday night and the road was opened in the early hours today.  The only final piece of work that will be required is to place some concrete barriers that didn’t make it last night and investigate a fix on what appears to be a loose pit lid. We’ll be doing this next and we estimate it should only take from around 9pm to  11pm to complete. The St Kilda Road southbound lane closure will be back in effect. Once the evening is confirmed I’ll send out a separate note.

With this new section of road now in place, we’ll start breaking out the old redundant road lane to expose the D-wall that sits underneath. This will effectively kick off the same construction sequence that has been happening over the past few months:

  1. Excavation down to the roof level
  2. Sucker trucks arrive to clean out the delayed pour strip section
  3. Concrete pour to this strip to tie the station roof into the walls
  4. Breaking down the excess d-wall
  5. Waterproofing
  6. Backfilling

The section of the D-wall in the middle of site was removed this week – we used a wire saw on this section as we had access to both sides of the wall. This significantly sped up the process when it came time to break out this section of the wall and reduced the extent of disruption. In this middle section it leaves us just one small section that currently sits underneath the access road across the site.

Moving entirely up the other end of the site to the north, you may have noticed that our the site sheds on St Kilda Road adjacent to the shrine grounds have now gone.  The team in this area are starting the work to prepare this road to come back into commission and act as the new southbound lane, which will continue through the existing site along the edge of Melbourne Grammar School.

The purpose of the road lane shuffling is to give the team access to get started on surface works prepare for the construction of the future tram alignment within the site boundary.

Next week will also see the start of works on Park Street to connect the new high voltage cable underneath St Kilda Road. You can see the setup on the map. It will require a bit of a pedestrian detour down Park Street while we have a pit opened up across the road. These works were going to start on Monday, but CitiPower have advised today that they’ll likely kick off the road closure on Wednesday.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

The newest addition to the quickly evolving  canopy structure is the skylights, the aim this week is to get 4 of the 14 skylights completed. Next week will also see the addition of the roof cladding panels, these will cover up the drainage trays and wet fire services that have been installed over the past few weeks. As we mentioned last week, the kiosk is now really starting to take shape and we’re almost ready for the roof installation to take place. Friday afternoon the team were putting up scaffolding around the kiosk to provide worker access.

Station box construction

Down on the platform and concourse levels of the station it is largely business as usual. Down at the platform level the first ‘topping slabs’ have been poured on the platforms. The topping slabs are poured in sections on top of the installed pre-cast sections and like the precast segments themselves, the pours progressively move from south to north as the platform moves forward.  Up on the concourse level the last of the ventilation fans have been installed at the southern end of the station, this area is really starting to resemble its final configuration. The same ventilation setup will be installed in the northern section, and it is also starting to take shape as all the northern back-of-house rooms continue to get built up.

Thanks, Rob and Christian

CYP weekly update

Good evening all,

We hope everyone has had a great week.

Below is a wrap-up of construction activities happening on-site next week, noting that there will be some nightworks on Tuesday and Wednesday undertaking road resurfacing and realigning the southbound lane of St Kilda Road. Works will begin on Tuesday 26 July, with Monday being an RDO.

Surface Works

Over the past two weeks, the team have been preparing a new section of road within our site. This is to prepare for next week’s new alignment of the southbound lane on St Kilda Road. This weekend, works will continue finishing road surfaces within site, applying granular layers and asphalt with a vibratory roller. Some of these road works within site may continue this Saturday to 4pm in order to get ready for the road switch mid-week.

On Tuesday 26 August and Wednesday 27 August, between 8pm-5am, overnight works will complete the tie in points of this section with St Kilda Road. Overnight works will include moving concrete barriers and applying asphalt at the tie in points on Tuesday night. Finishing works including line marking will recommence on Wednesday night the new alignment of the southbound lane in place from 5am Thursday morning.

Traffic management will begin setting up on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm with southbound lane road detours in place by 9pm. Wednesday traffic will run on the current alignment. The attached notification for these works indicates the southbound lane detour via Kings Way that will be in place during these overnight works.

Other surface works to be undertaken over the next week include demolition of the D-wall north of this area. The team will be trialling the use of a wire saw to cut sections of D-wall where there are no services behind the wall. This will reduce the amount of jackhammering required.

East of the oculus we will be waterproofing and backfilling down the centre of site.  Excavating, backfilling and waterproofing will also continue in the north-west section of site.

You will have noticed that site sheds have been removed over the past week in the northern end of site where drainage and road works will begin to prepare for another realignment of St Kilda Road’s southbound lane in September. Some minor pedestrian detours may be in place over the next two months where these sheds have been removed with further information to be provided as these works progress.

Sunday Works

CitiPower have advised us that they will be carrying out works this Sunday on the high voltage connection points at the pedestrian crossing at Domain Road. CitiPower operate under a separate permit to the Metro Tunnel works and as a result are subject to different standard working hours (as is the case with all utility companies)  Citipower will be undertaking works within the Domain precinct at the Shrine of Remembrance, Domain Road and Park Street and will also provide separate notification of their works occurring over the next month.

We’ll keep everyone updated on works outside the normal construction hours as we are informed of their works.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

On the platform station canopy, skylights will be installed over the next two weeks, beginning next Tuesday. The team will use basic hand tools and a scissor lift to install and, with some potential wet weather in line for next week, may include some out of hours works until 6pm weekdays and Saturday until 5pm. This work is not expected to generate a lot of noise.

Installation of wet fire services continues with installation of the fascia around the canopy starting next week. The Tram Interchange platform kiosk takes further shape with two external façade panels and roofing being installed next week to reveal the full footprint of the kiosk.

Station box construction

Within the lower levels of the station box the B1 level fit out and room build is on-going with the roughing in of services. The substation for the northern HV rooms will be arriving in the next 2 weeks which will be lowered in through the void from surface level. In surrounding service and operational rooms, more doors and finishing surfaces will be installed with layers of sealant and paint applied to these areas.

Down on B2 the core stairs have been installed with more insulation, cladding and ducting being installed in the southern end around attenuators over the coming week.
