If the noise is an issue…

If you are having issues with the noise outside during the nights – call 1800 105 105.

They will entertain relocations if needed as a last resort.

You may have also noticed that they cannot work if there is any rain….so you could take matters into your own hands and use one of these TOY water pistols. I doubt they can tell the difference between rain and water from this.

They are available here

CYP update

Good afternoon everyone,

We’ll get right to the point – Next week marks the start of two weeks of overnight works within the precinct – Our apologies in advance for the disruption that will follow, but as we’ve outlined before – we absolutely cannot miss the start date for the shutdown of the tram corridor on Sunday 27th of November.

In the sections below I’ve briefly outlined the daytime activities next week – with a more detailed table that breaks down the overnight activities scheduled in for next week.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

In yet another step towards a functioning tram platform, we’ve now got the first of the bluestone pavers laid down. I’ve included a photo of the first section of the new pavers going down, particularly as this will be a key activity that will continue up until 10pm in the leadup to the 27th November – and potentially overnight depending on progress. The reason this is such a key activity is that the entire footprint of the new tram platform features bluestone pavers, requiring a significant amount of work and coordination to ensure they are laid in time. Over the next few weeks the tiling crews will be a continued presence on the platform. The glass balustrades are also being installed around the opening in the tram platform looking down onto the tram platform. On top of the canopy roof, the team need to do the final elements of waterproofing, to support this activity, we’ll have another two scaffold towers erected at either end of the canopy. The roof of the canopy will be a busy place over the next three weeks as this is our last chance to access the roof before we kick off the 24/7 works, and ultimately commission the new platform.

Surface Works

Either side of the platform, the most obvious addition is the new track that is slowly extending out from the platform. Next week a lot of the preparation works will move into the southern section as the tracks make their way to the south end of the site. The backfill around the ventilation structures will also be finished off next week and the teams will start installing the bracketry inside the precast elements of the ventilation shafts, before the cladding is then installed.

Elsewhere around site CitiPower will be doing some work to decommission redundant light poles ahead of the 24/7 works at the end of November. We’ve attached a copy of their notification regarding these works.

There will also be some work to decommission redundant pits on the footpath of the pedestrian crossing at the Park Street tram stop on St Kilda Road. The footpath and crossing will remain open while these works are underway with fencing in place.

Station box construction

Underground the station box team are continuing to make good progress, the track slab construction is nearly complete on both the eastern and western sides. The platform will soon have new set of stairs leading up to the concourse, with the steel fixing for the stairs nearly complete and a pour scheduled in for next week.

Shrine Entrance

Next week over at the Shrine of Remembrance entrance the team will doing some work to break back piles ahead the pouring of a capping beam over the top. Steel fixing for the roof of this section of the entrance will also continue, while in those completed sections we’ll kick off some of the waterproofing works

Extended Hours Works:

The works listed below are those that will extend overnight next week. The coloured squares indicate the days that the listed activity will be continuing.  We’ll have additional supervision on site to ensure that we minimise any unnecessary noise, however all these activities will continue through the night. Activities such as hammering and sucker trucks are not permitted during the night, and other activities such as paver cutting will be stopped at 10pm.

As always, there is a chance that these days may slip or shift – but this represents the teams current thinking around which crews will be working in each location, each evening.

Survey results

Thanks to the 33 people who completed the survey. A few quick snapshots

The full results are here

A few particular matters that were raised

  • A few people asked about the back wall and the trellis that is on the wall. It seems that we will need scaffolding to fix the issue and that makes it quite difficult. However, we will also need scaffolding when we repaint the building – so we will do both at the same time. The timing is not locked in but currently scheduled for about 12 months’ time and the plan is to paint the back of the building first.
  • Coffee pod recycling – now available in the lower car park, near the bike racks. Currently only for Nespresso pods.
  • Ramp access at the front. We have looked at this and it is very difficult and expensive. We have also had it confirmed that we are meeting all legal requirements.
  • Sensor lights in common areas. We have converted all common area lights (including car park) to LED and decided that it is preferable from a security point of view to have them always on.
  • Return to sender box – the postie is happy to collect such mail from the bench near the flowers. Must be clearly marked as ‘return to sender’.
  • Solar power – we contacted one major supplier and they noted that we have limited roof space and it is heavily shaded. This is now on the back burner but not ruled out.
  • Lower car park – we have been doing some work on reducing the water ingress / efflorescence. The Long Term Maintenance Plan is being redone at the moment and we currently plan to repaint the lower carpark.

CYP update

See below – but nothing until THURSDAY

Good afternoon everyone,

In addition to the Melbourne Cup public holiday, over the next five days we will be observing a construction shutdown period which means that no construction works will be occurring onsite until next Thursday 3 November.

With a short week, this will be a brief summary of activities for next week. That being said, there will be works occurring at the end of next week including some out of hour works with an overview of these activities outlined below.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

When construction activities recommence next Thursday, works will continue surrounding the tram platform including trenching to install drainage and conduits for electrical and communication services to the platform.

Glass balustrades will be installed around the central mezzanine overlooking the underground station box and works on the canopy fascia and under flashing to the skylights will continue.

Cladding will be applied to the external surface of the kiosk and internal services to the kiosk will continue to be installed.

These works surrounding the tram platform and kiosk will continue out of normal construction hours until 10pm on weekdays and until 6pm on Saturdays, to ensure that critical works to the tram platform are complete for the start of tram realignment works in November.

Surface Works

Next week, between 8pm, Thursday 3 November and 5am Friday 4 November, the team will be shifting concrete barriers along the southbound lane of St Kilda Road to provide new access points into the construction site.

To undertake these works safely, this will require a closure of the southbound lane of St Kilda Road between Dorcas Street and Toorak Road and will need to occur overnight, outside of high traffic periods.

Through the centre of the construction site, works to install tram tracks and tram infrastructure such as overhead poles will continue in the preparation for the tram realignment works in November.

At the northern and southern ventilation and services shafts, waterproofing, backfilling and installation of utility services will recommence next week.

Around the perimeter surfaces of the structures, cladding will be installed. Due to recent inclement weather, works on and around these structures will continue outside of normal construction hours until 10pm on weekdays and 6pm on Saturdays.

Station box construction

Within the lower levels of the station box, finishing elements of blockwork installation are almost complete and fit out works are continuing.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing works are continuing and works to fitout the lifts and vertical transportation are underway.

Shrine Entrance

Next week at the Shrine entrance over near Domain Road we will continue steel fixing for the new section of the top-down roof. Once the roof is installed, the main excavation down to the future base slab will commence.

What are those vents used for???

  • The round one is an inlet – It brings in outside air to the mechanical systems, so nothing will be discharged from it.
  • The middle one is an outlet – It is the over track exhaust, but also has battery/uninterruptable power supply (UPS) room exhaust in the event they are called on. During normal operations, the over track exhaust extracts heat locally from the air conditioner condensers which are onboard the train and braking devices of the stationary trains. In the unlikely event of a fire, this would be used to extract smoke from the trackway, platform and concourse.
  • The tall one is a tunnel ventilation system (TVS) inlet exhaust –The TVS shaft can either exhaust or supply depending on the requirements of the tunnel (two shafts – one supply and one exhaust). The TVS is an environmental control e.g provide fresh air within tunnel and discharges oncoming air from approaching trains. In the unlikely event of a fire, the TVS is designed to prevent smoke spreading and to maintain acceptable conditions in the non-incident tunnel.

CYP update

Good evening everyone,

Apologies for the delayed look ahead. It appears this didn’t send properly on Friday afternoon – with any luck this one arrives in your inboxes.

There has been a lot of change out on site recently with the site now divided by the new section of southbound lane of St Kilda Road. This has allowed the us to shift our barriers onto what was the previous southbound lane and begin to breakout the old traffic lane to lay new tram tracks and lay the new road alignment adjacent to these tracks. Thankyou to everyone for you patience as we tied in the new section of the road, the significant amount of rain did not help matters, but the new lane is now open and we’re pushing ahead.

Next week will see a number of key activities run up until 10pm – During the week just gone, we wrapped up activities at 8pm, but the weather is not looking kind, and it is more than likely that these will need to continue all the way until 10pm.

Anzac Station entrance construction – Tram Interchange

The footprint of the new tram interchange will begin to expand significantly over the next few weeks as the team begin to pour the concrete foundations of the platform itself. The platform extends from just near the top of Albert Road, all the way down beyond the new kiosk that has been constructed and is now in the process of being fitted out. The team are also getting up underneath the canopy to get some works done on the underside of the canopy, while at ground level, the first sections of glass for the balustrades around the oculus began to be installed this week and will continue into next week.

Next week will also see more progress on the kiosk, with the glass installed for the future kiosk and the installation off some of the cladding around the outside of the kiosk.

Some of these works will continue out to 10pm including works on the underside of the canopy and the installation of the new cladding on the kiosk.

Surface Works

Outside the platform, the new sections of tram tracks continue their progress through site on the eastern side. Now that we’ve taken the old southbound lane of St Kilda Road and made some room on the western side of the canopy, you’ll start to see more tram track work in this section as well as installation of the new tram poles.  We are quickly approaching the deadline of the 27 November, when we switch off the power to the tram lines, buses replace trams and we begin the 24/7 works to break out the existing tracks and realign them to connect in with the new sections of tram alignment around the new platform.  Like this week, next week some activities will extend out to 10pm to ensure we are ready for the 27 November.  The platform and new sections of track need to be ready for this critical date, so over the coming weeks more activities will extend out to 10pm.  Activities you’ll see on site next week are similar to those you’ve seen to date, with excavators doing earthworks, tram track laying, asphalting, concrete pours.

The ventilation shafts will also continue to get some attention next week, the concrete pours continuing for the northern shafts are complete, connecting them to the station roof. We’ll see same at the southern end next week before waterproofing and backfill commences on both.

Station box construction

The big development inside the station box is the start of the construction of the stairs from concourse level down to platform level. The frame for the future pedestrian elevator has also been installed. We’ve included a photo this week on the first section of the formwork for the new stairs.

Shrine Entrance

Next week at the Shrine entrance over near Domain Road will see the start of the steel fixing for the new section of roof. Once the roof is installed, the main excavation down to the future base slab will commence.
