Those noisy reversing beepers

Metro Rail told me some time back that they are going to enforce the rule that all ‘vehicles’ on site will need to have the new generation reversing beepers – the ones that sound more like a quack and are MUCH less penetrating.

MOST vehicles have complied but some have not, I’ve been told that perhaps the sub-contractors have not yet changed their equipment…tough.  Tell them they are banned from site until the fix it!!

Here is an example of the banned one

If you hear one – take a short video plus a still photo to identify the offender.  I’ll start sending through to MMRA

Metro Rail – Good summary of the road changes

I have had discussions with Metro Rail about their method of sending LOTS of flyers but not providing much clarity.  The flyers have been very ‘project focused’ and not ‘customer focused’.  I don’t really care if the lane closures are for gas work, sewer work or tram work – I want to know what is closed and when.

They have now done this summary

It is MUCH better and gives a summary by each road area.  A few things to note:

  • Domain Rd will be closed at St Kilda Rd from July 11 for about 5 years – yes that’s right.  Five years
  • Toorak Rd West eastbound will be closed from 5am Tuesday June 13 for at least 2 weeks.
  • St Kilda Rd in the vicinity of Botanica will have lots of closures from  June 24 until July 12

On another matter, I know that Botanica residents had a letterbox drop late last week about night works on June 14 and 15.  It had an error, it shows the work immediately outside Botanica but calls it 420 St Kilda Rd.  I have notified Metro Rail but assume the work is going to occur outside Botanica.

2017 05 Multiple MMRA docs

The attachment above has most of the upcoming impacts from MMRA.  There is a separate one for the tram changes. MM-FACT-SHEET-Toorak-Road-West-Construction-Stage

For your information I have today had confirmation that they are looking at changing the format, with a greater focus on a consolidated 4-week look-ahead of all Metro Tunnel related works.

That will be most welcome.

I suggested a consolidated view with timing and impacts across everything.  I don’t  particularly care if it is power,  water, sewer or tram …just tell me when, what is happening and how bad.

I strongly suggest that you go to this site and register to get updates directly to your email.

Metro Rail – Rules around what’s too noisy, dusty and bumpy

Metro Rail have finally released this document.  My interpretation of this document is that it forms the basis of the terms in the contract with the winning bidder.  In that regard it is the minimum requirement, covering acceptable noise and vibration levels, relocations and the like.

I feel it is better than the previous versions that were tabled at the EES and more in line with best practice – London’s Crossrail project.

ALERT – Suspicious persons

I sent out an alert the other day about a person breaking into our letterboxes.  It seems there has been marked increase in this type of activity up and down St Kilda Rd lately.

These two below were in the carpark at St James recently. They stuffed tissues in the gate and door locks to prevent them from fully closing.

I understand someone recently broke into the letterboxes at St James.

The letterboxes at 18 Albert Road were also broken into last week and last month.

A chiller bag from Farmers Direct was stolen from outside the front doors of The Hallmark by two men on bikes at 5.50 am yesterday (10 May). Could not be identified on CCTV as they were wearing helmets.

What should you do?

  • I advise that you do NOT approach anyone directly
  • Be aware of those around you and make sure doors close behind you
  • Let us know of any suspicious activity
  • Do NOT leave building fobs in letterboxes.  That places the entire building at risk.
  • Although it has not been reported lately, we have had issues in the past with people looking through bins for identity information.  I strongly advise you to shred anything with your personal identity on it.  Don’t toss out delivery dockets, bank statements etc.

Warning – Letterbox break in

Be aware that in the early hours of today, we had a visitor to our letterboxes.  He managed to break in to many letterboxes.

We have some very clear footage of the person and it is being handed to the police.

Please try and clear your letterbox each night and do not leave access fobs / keys in the letterbox.
